As a regulator to the oil and gas industry, Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam (PA) recently had a site visit to the Marine Construction Yard (MCY) in Kuala Belait on 22nd April 2024. Hosted by the Fairley East project team, esteemed delegates from PA and Department of Energy (DOE) had the privilege of witnessing the completed Topside and Jacket of Fairley East, integral components of the BSP Low Cost Development (LCD) Project.
The significance of observing these structures, entirely fabricated within Brunei’s borders, cannot be overstated. It provided invaluable insight into Brunei’s capabilities in local construction, highlighting the nation’s self-reliance and resilience in the energy sector. This visit served as a vital opportunity for stakeholders to engage directly with these physical manifestations, emphasizing the strategic importance of investing in domestic resources.
For the delegates from PA, this visit offered first-hand exposure to the intricacies of offshore construction projects. Engaging with various stakeholders on-site facilitated a deeper understanding of the collaborative efforts involved, fostering insightful discussions and promoting knowledge exchange among industry experts.
As we continue to navigate the challenges and opportunities within the petroleum sector, PA remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting sustainable development and safeguarding the interests of all stakeholders involved. This visit to MCY stands as a testament to our collective dedication to advancing Brunei’s energy future.
