As part of its regulatory role, working with oil and gas operators and in cooperation with other authorities, Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam (PA) will ensure comprehensive assessment, reviewing and monitoring of the petroleum operational activities and program.

The PA delegation of 16 led by its Managing Director, Yang Mulia Shamir Salahudin, visited the Refinery and Petrochemical Complex operated by Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd at Pulau Muara Besar (PMB) on 23rd May 2024. This visit provided many of the PA staff with a first-hand look at the PMB Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, allowing them to appreciate the scale of operations at the site.

CEO of Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd, Mr Chen Lian Cai, and his team, took the delegation around the plant, including its control room and laboratory. During the visit, the delegation also interacted with Bruneians who were forging careers in this new fledging industry.

“It was amazing to see how sophisticated the whole refinery plant is. Seeing how the oil and gas work up close in person is a wonderful opportunity for someone who does not work onsite,” shared Khairul Asyraf from Corporate Planning.

“This Phase 1 project has gathered a talent pool of bright minds in the making and stands as the cornerstone for Brunei’s oil and gas development,” said Abidah M. Abidin from Downstream.

Hengyi Industries achieved successful Phase 1 operations in November 2019 after 2.5 years of construction and 2.5 months of active commissioning activities.
