The Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam (PABD), in collaboration with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Brunei Section, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), hosted the Brunei Petroleum Technology Exhibition and Conference (PTEC) 2025. Themed “Innovation for Efficiency and Sustainability in the Hydrocarbon Industry,” the event took place from 10th to 13th February 2025, at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas. This significant event aimed to strengthen collaboration and innovation within the hydrocarbon industry and underscored the nation’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology as key to driving efficiency, sustainability, and long-term growth while navigating the evolving energy landscape.

Present as the Guest of Honour during the inauguration was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (R) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II. Also in attendance were Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Sufian bin Haji Sabtu, Deputy Minister (Security and Law) at the Prime Minister’s Office and Chairman of Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) Board of Directors; Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, Deputy Minister (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office and Chairman of the Petroleum Authority Board of Directors; Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy and Deputy Chairman of the Petroleum Authority Board of Directors; Members of the Legislative Council; Ambassadors; High Commissioners; Permanent Secretaries; Deputy Permanent Secretaries; Senior Government Officials; Chief Executive Officers; and Managing Directors of Statutory Bodies and Companies.

In his Opening Remarks, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (R) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof highlighted the significance of Brunei PTEC 2025. He stated, “As a nation, securing reliable, competitive, and sustainable energy supply is essential—not only in safeguarding long-term prosperity but also in building a resilient and thriving economy. However, in a world facing the pressing challenges of climate change, Brunei Darussalam recognises that the hydrocarbon industry carries an amplified responsibility to strike a delicate balance between energy security, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability.”

He added, “In this respect, leveraging technology and digitalisation has become more important than ever. Innovation will be key to improving operational efficiency, minimising environmental impacts, and maintaining competitiveness as we transition into a more sustainable future.”

Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (R) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof also announced that the Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam is launching the Shallow Water Licensing Round and welcomed participation from industry players.

Yang Mulia Shamir Salahudin, Managing Director of the Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam and Chairman of the Brunei PTEC 2025 Organising Committee, emphasised during his Welcoming Remarks the importance of pushing the development envelope amidst increasing industry complexities. He noted that the theme for Brunei PTEC 2025 reflects a commitment to addressing the pressing challenges and opportunities facing the global energy sector.

The four-day event showcased the latest technologies, solutions, and innovations through a series of panel discussions featuring expert speakers and leaders from various fields, as well as an exhibition participated in by local and international industry players.
